The axial section of the cylinder is square. the base area of the cylinder is 36π cm2. calculate the height of the cylinder.

At the base of the cylinder is a circle of radius R, the area of which can be determined by the formula

S = n * R²,

whence the radius of the circle at the base of the cylinder is

R = √ (S / п) = √ (36п / п) = 6 cm.

Then the diameter of the circle at the base of the cylinder is

D = 2 * R = 2 * 6 = 12 cm.

Axial section – a section passing through the axis of the cylinder, therefore one of its sides will be the found diameter of the circle at the base of the cylinder. Since the axial section is a square, its height is equal to the diameter of the base of the cylinder:

H = D = 12 cm.
