When sulfuric acid interacts with barium chloride, a precipitate of insoluble salt – barium sulfate – precipitates. The reaction equation looks like this:
H2SO4 + BaCl2 = BaSO4 + 2 HCl
The molar mass of barium chloride is 207 g / mol; the molar mass of barium sulfate is 233 g / mol.
For the calculation, let’s make a proportion:
6.42 g of barium chloride corresponds to X g of barium sulfate, as
207 g / mol barium chloride corresponds to 233 g / mol barium sulfate.
X = (6.24 * 233) / 207 = 7 g of barium chloride
