| Calculate the mass of calcium chloride formed by the reaction of 63 g of calcium oxide containing 4% impurities with hydrochloric acid.
1. Let’s compose the equality of chemical interaction:
CaO + 2HCl = CaCl2 + H2O.
2. Calculate the chemical amount of calcium oxide:
ω (CaO) = 100% – ω (impurities) = 100% – 4% = 96%.
m (CaO) = m (solution) * ω (CaO) / 100% = 63 g * 96% / 100% = 60.48 g.
n (CaO) = m (CaO) / M (CaO) = 60.48 g / 56 g / mol = 1.08 mol.
3. Using the equality of chemical interaction, we find the number of moles and, as a result, the mass of calcium chloride:
n (CaCl2) = n (CaO) = 1.08 mol.
m (CaCl2) = n (CaCl2) * M (CaCl2) = 1.08 mol * 111 g / mol = 119.88 g.
Result: m (CaCl2) = 119.88 g.
