Given:
V (mixture) = 50 ml,
V (gas) = 20 ml.
φ (gas) =?
Decision :
φ (gas) = V (gas) / V (mixture) × 100%.
Let’s find the volume of hydrogen in a mixture of gases.
50 ml – 20 ml = 30 ml.
φ (gas) = (30 ml: 50 ml) × 100% = 60%.
Or:
50 ml – 100%,
30 ml – x%.
x = (30 x 100): 50 = 60.
Answer: the volume fraction of hydrogen is 60%.
