A 78 cm² circle and a 55 cm² square were drawn on a piece of paper. The intersection area of a circle and a square is 30 cm². The part of the leaf not occupied by the circle and the square has an area of 150 cm². Find the area of the sheet.

1. Let the area of intersection of figures = X, the area not occupied by the figures = A, the area of a circle and a square, not including the area of intersection of figures, is equal to P and Y, respectively. Then the area of the sheet is equal to X + A + P + Y.
2. To find the areas P and Y, subtract the area X from the areas of the circle and the square:
P = 78 – 30 = 48 sq. Cm.
Y = 55 – 30 = 25 sq. Cm.
3. Find the area of the sheet:
48 + 25 + 150 + 30 = 73 + 180 = 253 sq. Cm.
Answer: the area of the sheet is 253 sq. Cm.
