A beaker is filled with 23 ml of water. After the 6.9 g part was lowered into the beaker, the water level rose to 26 ml.

A beaker is filled with 23 ml of water. After the 6.9 g part was lowered into the beaker, the water level rose to 26 ml. Determine the density of the substance from which the part is made.

The solution of the problem:
1. Let’s find ΔV, this will be the volume of the part:
ΔV = V2 – V1;
ΔV = 26 ml – 23 ml = 3 ml;
V = 3 ml = 3 cm3;
2. Find the density of the part:
p = m / V;
p = 6.9 g / 3 cm3 = 2.3 g / cm3;
3.3 g / cm3 = 2300 kg / m3 – porcelain.
Answer: the density of the investigated part is 2300 kg / m3.
