A boy weighing 45 kg stands on skis. Each ski is 1.5m long and 10cm wide. How much pressure does the boy put on the snow? Compare this to the pressure a boy does without skis. (pressure without skis: 15 kPa.)

Find the area of contact:
S = 1.5m * 0.1m = 0.15m ^ 2
the force with which the boy presses is equal to the force of gravity
F = mg
F = 45kg * 10n / kg = 450N
and according to the pressure formula
p = F / S
p = 450N / 0.15m ^ 2 = 3000Pa
