A car weighing 50 tons collided with another car. As a result of the collision, the first car received an acceleration equal to 6 m / s2, and the second – an acceleration equal to 12 m / s2. Determine the mass of the second car.

Given:

m1 = 50 tons = 50,000 kilograms – the mass of the first car;

a1 = 6 m / s ^ 2 is the acceleration that the first car received as a result of the collision;

a2 = 12 m / s ^ 2 is the acceleration that the second car received as a result of the collision.

It is required to determine the mass of the second carriage m2 (kilogram).

As a result of the collision, the same force acted on both cars, which gave them acceleration. This force F is equal to:

F = m1 * a1 = 50,000 * 6 = 300,000 Newtons. Then the mass of the second car is equal to:

m2 = F / a2 = 300000/12 = 25000 kilograms.

Answer: the mass of the second car is 25,000 kilograms (25 tons).
