A diesel locomotive, moving uniformly accelerated from a state of rest with an acceleration of 0.1 m / s2

A diesel locomotive, moving uniformly accelerated from a state of rest with an acceleration of 0.1 m / s2, increases its speed to 18 km / m. How long does it take to reach this speed?

To find the speed reached by the diesel locomotive and the distance traveled by it, we will use the formulas (we take into account the absence of the initial speed): t = V / a and S = V ^ 2 / 2a.

Values of variables: a – acquired acceleration (a = 0.1 m / s2); V is the achieved speed (V = 18 km / h = 5 m / s).

Calculation: a) Acceleration duration: t = V / a = 5 / 0.1 = 50 s;

b) Distance covered: S = V ^ 2 / 2a = 5 ^ 2 / (2 * 0.1) = 125 m.

Answer: The locomotive will reach a speed of 18 km / h in 50 seconds and travel 125 m.
