A furry rabbit was crossed with a smooth-haired rabbit. Determine the offspring if the rabbit is unclean and purebred. Identify phenotypes and genotypes F1 and F2?

Based on the condition of the problem, let’s designate the shaggy fur gene as dominant – P, then the smooth fur gene will be p.

The concept of “purebred” implies the homozygosity of the genotype.

1. Let’s say the rabbit is purebred. Let’s designate purebred furry rabbits as PP. They produce the same type of P.

A smooth-haired rabbit will have a homozygous pp genotype, because only if the genotype is homozygous for the smooth fur gene can this trait be realized in the rabbit phenotype. This rabbit produces one type of sperm – p.

When a purebred rabbit with shaggy fur is crossed with such a rabbit, the offspring will be uniform and represented by heterozygous Pp rabbits with shaggy fur. In turn, such individuals produce sex cells of two types – P and p. F2 offspring from crossing heterozygotes are represented by the options:

rabbits with smooth fur (pp) – 25%;

rabbits-heterozygotes with shaggy fur (Pp) – 50%;

homozygote rabbits with shaggy fur (PP) – 25%.

2. If the furry rabbit is heterozygous, that is, not purebred, then it has the Pp genotype and produces eggs P and p. Offspring from crossing with a rabbit with smooth fur will be represented by options:

homozygous rabbits with smooth fur (pp) – 50%;

heterozygous rabbits with furry fur (Pp) – 50%.
