| A passenger car weighing 800 kg moves under the action of a traction force of 400 N. What should be the traction force of a truck to impart the same acceleration to it if the mass is 4 tons?
Initial data: m1 (mass of a passenger car) = 800 kg; F (traction force of a passenger car) = 400 N; m2 (truck weight) = 4 tons.
SI system: m2 = 4 t = 4 * 1000 kg = 4000 kg.
1) Let’s calculate the acceleration with which the car is moving:
F1 = m1 * a and a = F1 / m1 = 400/800 = 0.5 m / s ^ 2.
2) Let’s calculate the traction force of the truck:
F2 = m2 * a = 4000 * 0.5 = 2000 N = 2 kN.
Answer: The towing force of the truck must be 2 kN.
