A rectangle and a square have the same perimeter. Find the length of the rectangle if the sides of the square are 9 cm and the width of the rectangle is 6 cm.

First of all, we find the perimeter of the square, the side of which is 9 cm.To do this, multiply the length of the side of the square by 4:

1) 9 * 4 = 36 (cm).

By the condition of the problem, the perimeter of the square is equal to the perimeter of the rectangle, that is, the perimeter of the rectangle is 36 cm.

So, twice the sum of the sides of a rectangle is 36.

Find the sum of the two sides of the rectangle by dividing the perimeter by 2:

2) 36: 2 = 18 (cm).

Let’s find the length of the rectangle if, according to the condition, the width of the rectangle is 6 cm, and the sum of the length and width is 18 cm:

3) 18 – 6 = 12 (cm).

Answer: the length of the rectangle is 12 cm.
