A rectangle with sides of 3 cm and 4 cm was cut out of a square with a side of 10 cm. Find the pyrimeter of the remaining part.
To solve this example, we will use the dummy variable “Y”, through which we denote the perimeter of the remaining part of the square.
Based on the information in the example, we will form the following expression: Y = 10 + 10 + 3 + 4 + (10 – 3) + (10 – 4).
When we count, as a result we will have the following value Y = 20 + 7 + 7 + 6 = 20 + 14 + 6 = 20 + 20 = 40 cm.
Answer: the rest of the square has a perimeter of 40 cm.
