Why did ancient tree ferns become extinct?

For tens of millions of years, tree ferns have been the dominant plants on much of the Earth’s surface. They flourished because in antiquity (in particular, in the Jurassic period) the climate on the planet was uniformly warm and more humid, i.e. all suitable conditions were created for the growth of tree ferns. However, then the continents began to move away from the equator, so the climate on Earth changed. The process of glaciation began, in some places very little precipitation fell. It is because of climatic changes that tree ferns have become extinct everywhere, except for the modern equatorial belt.
