A square with a perimeter of 24 cm rotates around one side. Determine the surface area of the body of revolution.

1) A square, when rotating around its side, will give a surface – two circles with a radius equal to the side of the square

a = 24 cm: 4 = 6 cm, and a rectangle with sides equal to the side of the square 6 cm and the circumference L at the base:

L = 2 * 3.14 * 6 cm = 37.68 cm.

2) The area of one circle is 3.14 * 6 ^ 2 = 113.04 cm²

The area of the two circles (upper and lower bases) is equal to:

2 * 113.04 cm² = 226.08 cm².

3) Lateral surface area C side. pov. is equal to:

From side pov. = a * L = 6 cm * 37.68 cm = 226.08 cm².

The total surface area is:

226.08 cm² + 226.08 cm² = 452.16 cm²
