| 1. The length of the AD side is twice the length of the AB side according to the problem statement. Hence,
AD = 2AB.
2. Considering that the opposite sides of the rectangle are equal, we calculate its perimeter by the formula:
The perimeter of the rectangle = 2AB + 2AD = 18 centimeters. We replace AD with 2AB:
2AB + 4 AB = 18 centimeters.
6AB = 18 centimeters.
AB = 3 centimeters. AD = 2 x 3 = 6 centimeters.
3. The area of the rectangle = AD x AB = 6 x 3 = 18 centimeters ^ 2.
Answer: the area of the rectangle ABCD is 18 centimeters ^ 2.
