Acid exhibits weak acidic properties.

A weak acid is one that does not fully ionize when dissolved in water.

Ethanic acid is a typical weak acid. It reacts with water to form hydronium ions and ethanoate ions, but the reverse reaction is more successful than the direct one. Ions react very easily to acid and water processing.

At any given time, only about 1% of ethanic acid molecules are converted to ions. The rest remain as simple ethanic acid molecules.

Most organic acids are weak. Hydrogen fluoride (dissolved in water to produce hydrofluoric acid) is a weak inorganic acid.
