Adaptation of the leaf to photosynthesis.

Leaves have many adaptations to photosynthesis.

Chlorophyll – They contain a photosynthetic pigment called chlorophyll, which helps absorb the required light energy.

Surface area – The leaves are flat and thin, which provides a large surface area for gas exchange.

Veins. They help in circulation to the tip of the leaf, which aids in proper gas exchange and nutrient intake.

Position – The leaf is held slightly outward with the stalk so that it can come into contact with clean air and adequate sunlight.

Enzymes – Various enzymes needed in the metabolic process of photosynthesis are found inside the leaf.
