Bukhara was one of the main cities of Central Asia in the Middle Ages, which was an administrative, cultural and scientific center. This city was founded in the 5th century BC. e. in the historical region of Sogdiana. At that time, she was famous in China and in the lands of Alexander the Great. Later it became part of the Turkic Kaganate, and in 739 it was conquered by the Arab armies. Since then, Bukhara began to flourish gradually. In this city lived Ibn Sina and the historian Narshakhi, as well as for some time Omar Khayyam. In the first half of the 12th century, the famous Kalyan minaret was built.
