After whom did America get its name?

This question in scientific circles still does not have an exact answer, but there is a generally accepted point of view that America is named after the Florentine traveler Amerigo Vespucci, who visited this continent as part of an expedition at the turn of the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries. A rather popular version is that America was named after Richard America, the main sponsor of the second transatlantic expedition to the mainland (which was 2 years earlier than Vespucci’s expedition).
