The reasons for the First Crusade were the desire of the feudal lords to gain independence from the kings, the peasants dreamed of being independent from the feudal lords, the clergy dreamed of getting rich. The main goal was to free the Holy Sepulcher from Muslims. The campaign began in 1096, and was attended by feudal lords and ordinary people from many states of Western Europe. The participants in the campaign managed to capture Nicaea, Antioch, Edessa, Jerusalem. Gottfried of Bouillon became king of Jerusalem. The campaign ended in 1099, and its main goals were achieved.
