Lichens are a kind of combination of fungus and algae, the fungus lines the walls of the thallus, and the algae is located in the dense body of the fungus. Such a union is an example of a symbiotic relationship, when two organisms live together and both receive useful benefits from such cohabitation (this will also be called mutualism when the benefits are the same for two).
