An excess of iron filings was dropped into a solution containing copper sulfate (2) weighing

An excess of iron filings was dropped into a solution containing copper sulfate (2) weighing 16.0 g. Calculate the mass of copper released in this case.

CuSO4 + Fe = FeSO4 + Cu.
1) According to the periodic table, we find the molar mass of copper sulfate: 64 + 32 + 4 * 16 = 160.
2) Find the amount of copper sulfate substance. To do this, divide the mass of sulfate by its molar mass: 16/160 = 0.1 mol.
3) According to the reaction equation, there is one mole of copper for one mole of copper sulfate. This means that the amount of copper substance is 0.1 mol.
4) Molar mass of copper: 64.
5) Find the mass of copper. For this, the amount of copper substance is multiplied by the molar mass of copper: 0.1 * 64 = 6.4 g – the answer.
