There is a fairly wide variety of organelles that have a double membrane. But they can be found only in eukaryotic cells, since these are membrane organelles, and prokaryotes have only non-membrane structures. These organelles include mitochondria. They have a double membrane. Their function is to provide the third stage of energy metabolism in the cell. Also, such organelles include plastids. Plastids are characteristic of plant cells. Chloroplasts are one of the main plastids that provide the cell with glucose.
