Analyze and write down the composition of salts, answer which of them undergo hydrolysis

Analyze and write down the composition of salts, answer which of them undergo hydrolysis: a) Ca (NO3) 2 b) MgSO4 c) BаS

a) Ca (NO3) – calcium nitrate, the salt is formed by a strong base – Ca (OH) 2 and a strong acid (HNO3). Therefore, it does not undergo hydrolysis;

b) MgSO4 – magnesium sulfate, the salt is formed by a weak base and a strong acid and will undergo hydrolysis by the cation:

MgSO4 = Mg ^ (2+) + SO4 ^ (2-)

Mg ^ (2+) + HOH = MgOH ^ (+) + H ^ (+) – acidic medium;

Mg ^ (2+) + SO4 ^ (2-) + HOH = MgOH ^ (+) + H ^ (+) + SO4 ^ (2-)

2 MgSO4 +2 H2O = (MgOH) 2 SO4 + H2SO4

c) BаS – barium sulfide, the salt is formed by a strong base and a weak acid and will undergo hydrolysis by the anion:

BаS = Bа ^ (2+) + S ^ (2-)

S ^ (2-) + HOH = H S ^ (-) + OH ^ (-) – basic medium;

Ba ^ (2+) + S ^ (2-) + HOH = Ba ^ (2+) + H S ^ (-) + OH ^ (-)

BаS + 2 H2O = Bа (OH) 2 + Н2S
