Are the aquatic inhabitants that stay at the bottom called?

Groups of organisms that live in the bottom soil and on its surface are called “benthos”. The name comes from the Greek “bentos”, which means “sea depth”. Benthos includes both marine and oceanic organisms and organisms that live on the bottom of rivers and lakes. Distinguish between “zoobenthos” – living microorganisms, animals, fish, molluscs and corals, and “phytobenthos”, which includes benthic plants, algae and the like.
