Artistic culture of the late XIX-XX centuries

Late 19th – early 20th century – the time of “unheard of changes” and “unprecedented revolts” (A. A. Blok), scientific and technological progress and acute political cataclysms, it led to deep and serious changes in art, determined new and original ways of its development. The uniqueness of the artistic situation of this time consisted in the fact that, in contrast to previous eras, practically simultaneously with realism, new styles, currents and directions emerge and take shape, which often come into conflict with it.

This controversial process fully reflects the characteristic features of its time. It is not devoid of logic, has general development trends, and obeys certain laws and rules. On the one hand, the art of the XX century. is perceived as a rejection of old artistic traditions, an attempt to creatively rethink the classical heritage of the past, and on the other – as bold innovations, experiments, not limited by any framework and conventions. The artist has never been so liberated and free in his work, for the first time he got a real opportunity to orient himself to his own taste and preferences.

Artistic culture of the XX century. the idea of the synthesis of arts turned out to be very close. The “family of muses” was replenished with new types: cinema, television, video, computer graphics, design became characteristic signs of this time. The picture of the development of art in the XX century today cannot claim to be exhaustive.
