As a result of which battle did the German plan for lightning war fail?

The German plan for a lightning war “Barbarossa” failed as a result of the battle for Moscow (September 30, 1941 – April 20, 1942). As you know, the Germans planned to capture the USSR in a few months, acting “with lightning speed”, advancing in three main directions: northern, central and southern. In a short time, German troops penetrated deep into the depths of Russia, capturing many cities and villages, including Smolensk in the central direction. The battle for Moscow was the first major defeat of the Germans in the Great Patriotic War, effectively disrupting the plan for a lightning war.
