| At 0 degrees Celsius, the gas occupies a volume of 15 liters. At what temperature will the volume of gas become equal to 5 liters at the same pressure?
Given:
T1 = 0 degrees Celsius = 273 degrees Kelvin – the initial gas temperature;
V1 = 15 liters = 0.015 m ^ 3 – initial gas volume;
V2 = 5 liters = 0.005 m ^ 3 – final gas volume.
It is required to determine T2 (degrees Celsius) – the final gas temperature.
Since, according to the condition of the problem, the process occurs at constant pressure (P = const), then:
V1 / T1 = V2 / T2;
T2 = V2 * T1 / V1 = 0.005 * 273 / 0.015 = 1.365 / 0.015 = 91 degrees Kelvin = -182 degrees Celsius.
Answer: the volume of gas will become equal to 5 liters at a temperature of -182 degrees Celsius.
