At one point, forces are applied: F1 = 15 НF2 = 24 НF3 = 19 НF4 = 20 N. Determine their resultant
At one point, forces are applied: F1 = 15 НF2 = 24 НF3 = 19 НF4 = 20 N. Determine their resultant (vector sum) for the case when: a) all these forces act along one straight line in one direction; b) all these forces act along one straight line, but F1 and F2 in one direction, and F3 and F4 in the other.
Given:
F1 = 15 Newton;
F2 = 24 Newtons;
F3 = 19 Newton;
F4 = 20 Newtons.
It is required to determine the resultant forces F (Newton) in the following cases:
a) all forces act along one straight line in one direction;
b) all forces act along one straight line, but F1 and F2 in one direction, and F3 and F4 in the other
Let us find the resultant forces for case a):
F = F1 + F2 + F3 + F4 = 15 + 24 + 19 + 20 = 78 Newtons.
Let us find the resultant of the forces for case b, while we agree that F1 and F2 act in the positive direction of the coordinate axis, and F3 and F4 in the negative direction.
F = F1 + F2 – F3 – F4 = 15 + 24 – 19 – 20 = 0 Newton.
Answer: the resultant forces in case a will be equal to 78 Newton, in case b – 0 Newton.
