| At the intersection of two parallel straight line secants, the difference in one-sided angles is 70 degrees. Find the degree measure of the larger angle.
Since the lines are parallel, the sum of the two one-sided angles is 180 °. Let the value of the larger angle be X, and the smaller one Y. Then the system of equations is valid:
Y = X – 70 °,
X + Y = 180 °.
Substituting the first expression in the second instead of Y, we get:
X + X – 70 ° = 180 °.
Hence: 2X = 180 ° + 70 °, which is equivalent: X = 250 ° / 2 = 125 °.
Answer: 125 °.
