At what value of the variable is the value of the expression -5 (3x + 8) 10 less than the expression 2-7s?

In order to find at what value of the variable x the value of the expression -5 (3x + 8) is 10 less than the expression 2 – 7x, we will compose and solve the following linear equation.

If we add 10 to the first expression, then we can equate the resulting expression to the second.

So, we get the expression:

-5 (3x + 8) + 10 = 2 – 7x;

Let’s open the brackets on the left side:

-5 * 3x – 5 * 8 + 10 = 2 – 7x;

-15x – 40 + 10 = 2 – 7x;

We group similar ones in different parts of the equation:

-15x + 7x = 2 + 40 – 10;

x (-15 + 7) = 32;

-8x = 32;

x = 32: (-8);

x = -4.
