Barium chloride solution was added to 150 grams of 20% sodium sulfate solution. How many grams of sediment was formed.

We compose the reaction equation, arrange the coefficients:
Na2SO4 + BaCl2 = BaSO4 + 2NaCl.
The precipitate is barium sulfate.
1) Calculation of the mass of the solute sodium sulfate: 150 * 20/100 = 30g.
2) Calculation of the molar mass of sodium sulfate: 23 * 2 + 32 + 16 * 4 = 142.
3) Calculation of the amount of sodium sulfate substance: 30/152 = 0.21 mol.
4) According to the reaction equation, there is one mole of barium sulfate for one mole of sodium sulfate. This means that the amount of barium sulfate substance is 0.21 mol.
5) The mass of the sediment is: 0.21 * (137 + 32 + 16 * 4) = 49.14 g – the answer.
