Francis Bacon was born in 1561. He was the greatest English politician, historian, but most of all he is remembered as a philosopher. It was to him that he laid the foundation of empirical philosophy, that is, he based all his ideas on a scientific approach. He rejects scholastic thinking. He bases all knowledge on rational analysis. His main works were: “On the dignity and augmentation of sciences”, “Experiments, or instructions …”, etc. The great scientist and writer died in 1626.
