Birch blooms in spring even before the leaves bloom. Why?

Birch is an anemophilous plant, i.e. pollinated by the wind. Therefore, the flowers (sometimes them and catkins) on the tree bloom before the leaves appear so that without obstacles, with the help of the wind, they can spread the pollen to other trees for pollination and continue the population. And the leaves bloom later, so as not to interfere with this process.
