Let’s designate the gene that causes the black color of cattle fur as C, and the gene for red color as c. A black bull, as the owner of a dominant trait, can be both homo-, ta and heterozygous – Cc or CC, respectively. The red cow will have the homozygous cc genotype. Let’s consider both options.

Let the black bull be homozygous – CC. It produces sperm of the same type – C. Red cow – cc, produces eggs – c. All calves have the Cc genotype, which is outwardly manifested in the development of black wool;

Let the black bull be heterozygous – Cc. It produces two types of sperm – C and C. From crossing with a red cow, the following offspring options are possible: heterozygous Cc calves with black wool – 50%; homozygous red-haired calves cc – 50%.

Such a crossing is called analyzing, it is carried out in order to determine the purebredity of the analyzed individual, which has a dominant phenotype. If there is no cleavage in the offspring, then the analyzed animal is purebred (homozygous for the gene for the dominant trait).
