Borders of the Frankish Empire at the beginning of the 9th century.

In the 9th century, a large state was formed on the territory of Europe – the empire of Charlemagne. It was created in the course of long conquests and wars. So in the years of its heyday, its borders reached in the southwest – the Pyrenees mountains, in the south they reached central Italy, in the west to the Elba River.
