P = 2 + 2 + 4 + 4 = 4 + 4 + 4 = 8 + 4 = 12 (cm)

Since a rectangle has two identical lengths and widths, the solution can be written as follows:

P = 2 * (2 + 4)

We open the brackets, we get:

P = 2 * 2 + 2 * 4 = 4 + 8 = 12 (cm)
