Calculate the amount of pure copper substance and water formed during the reduction

Calculate the amount of pure copper substance and water formed during the reduction of copper oxide (2) with a mass of 8 grams with hydrogen.

1. Calculate the amount of copper (II) oxide substance according to the formula:

n = m: M, where M is molar mass. M (CuO) = 64 + 16 = 80g / mol.

n (CuO) = 8 g: 80 g / mol = 0.1 mol.

2. We compose the reaction equation for the reduction of copper by hydrogen from copper (II) oxide.

3. We find the quantitative ratios of substances according to the reaction equation. Based on the reaction equation, the substances CuO, Cu and H2O react in a 1: 1: 1 ratio, that is, in equal amounts.

If n (CuO) = 0.1 mol, then n (Cu) = 0.1 mol, n (H2O) = 0.1 mol.

Answer: n (Cu) = 0.1 mol, n (H2O) = 0.1 mol.
