Calculate the area of a right-angled triangle whose sides are 10 cm and 6 cm

Decision:

The area of a right-angled triangle is half the product of its legs.

Let’s consider two cases.

1 case. The legs of a right triangle are 10 cm and 6 cm.

Then the area of the triangle is: S = (10 * 6): 2

We get: S = 30 sq. cm.

2 case. The hypotenuse is 10 cm, one of the legs is 6 cm.

Let us find another leg by the Pythagorean theorem: b 2 = 10 2 – 6 2.

b 2 = 64. Whence b = 8 cm.

Find the area of the triangle: S = (8 * 6): 2

We get: S = 24 sq. cm.

Answer: 30 sq. see or 24 sq. cm.
