1) Calculate by the formula, which is equal to the area of a rectangular sheet: S = a · b = 5 · 7 = 35 (cm²);
2) Let’s find what the area of the cut out square is equal to: S = a² = 2² = 4 (cm²);
3) Determine the area of the remaining piece of colored paper: 35 – 4 = 31 (cm²).
Answer: the area of the remainder of colored paper is 31 cm².
