Calculate the following data for nitrogen a.) The relative density in hydrogen; b.) relative density by air; c.) weight 1 liter. ; d) the mass of the nitrogen atom; Volume 1 g.

1. The relative density of nitrogen in terms of hydrogen is calculated by the formula:

DH2 (N2) = Mr (N2) / Mr (H2) = 28/2 = 14.

2. The density for oxygen is found in the same way:

DО2 (N2) = Mr (N2) / Mr (О2) = 28/32 = 0.875.

3. The mass of 1 liter of nitrogen is found from the formula:

m (N2) = n • Mr (N2).

Knowing that 1 mole of any gas at n. at. occupies a volume of 22.4 liters, we find the number of moles for 1 liter of gas.

n (N2) = V / Vm = 1 / 22.4 = 0.045 mol.

m (N2) = 0.045 * 28 = 1.26 g.

4. The mass of the nitrogen atom is found by the formula:

m (N) = Ar (N) • 1.66 ⋅ 10-24

1.66 ⋅ 10-24 g is the absolute mass of the atomic mass unit.

m (N) = 14 ⋅ 1.66 ⋅ 10-24 g = 23.24 ⋅ 10-24 g.

5. The volume of 1 gram at n. at. calculate by the formula:

V (N2) = n • Vm

n (N2) = m / M = 1/14 = 0.07 mol.

V (N2) = 0.07 * 22.4 = 1.6 liters.
