| Calculate the mass and amount of the substance of the resulting salt, if 0.2 mol of magnesium and 0.2 mol of formic acid are taken for the reaction.
Given:
n (HCOOH) = 0.2 mol
n (Mg) = 0.2 mol
To find:
n (salt) -?
Decision:
1) Write the equation of a chemical reaction:
Mg + 2HCOOH => (HCOO) 2Mg + H2 ↑;
2) Compare the amount of HCOOH and Mg:
The amount of HCOOH is in short supply, therefore, calculations will be carried out for it;
3) Find the amount of substance (HCOO) 2Mg (taking into account the coefficients in the reaction equation):
n ((HCOO) 2Mg) = n (HCOOH) / 2 = 0.2 / 2 = 0.1 mol.
Answer: The amount of salt substance (HCOO) 2Mg (magnesium formate) is 0.1 mol.
