Calculate the mass fraction of a solute in a solution for the preparation of which 50 g of salt and 450 g of water were taken.

The solution consists of two components. Dissolved substance and solvent.

The weight of the solution is 50 + 450 = 500 grams.

Let’s calculate the mass fraction of salt.

To do this, divide the mass of salt by the mass of the solution.

With substance = 50/500 = 0.1 = 10%;

In a similar way, we calculate the mass fraction of the solution.

From solvent = 450/500 = 0.9 = 90%;

Checking: C substance + C solvent = 10 + 90 = 100%;
