Calculate the mass fraction of a solute in a solution obtained by dissolving 15 g of salt in 45 g of water.
April 10, 2021 | education
| The solution consists of two components: water weighing 45 grams and salt weighing 15 grams.
The mass of the solution is equal to the sum of their masses:
m solution = 15 + 45 = 60 grams.
To find the mass fraction of salt, we divide the mass of salt by the mass of the solution:
C = m salt / m solution = 15/60 = 0.25 = 25%;
