| Calculate the mass of aluminum and the mass of oxygen that will be required to obtain aluminum oxide with a mass of 25.5 g.
1. Aluminum oxide is obtained as a result of the reaction:
4Al + 3O2 = 2Al2O3.
2. Calculate the chemical amount of aluminum oxide:
n (Al2O3) = m (Al2O3): M (Al2O3);
M (Al2O3) = 2 * 27 + 3 * 16 = 102 g / mol;
n (Al2O3) = 25.5: 102 = 0.25 mol.
3. Set the amount of aluminum:
n (Al) = n (Al2O3) * 2 = 0.25 * 2 = 0.5 mol.
4. Determine the amount of oxygen:
n (O2) = n (Al2O3) * 3: 2 = 0.25 * 3: 2 = 0.375 mol.
5. Let’s calculate the mass of aluminum:
m (Al) = n (Al) * M (Al) = 0.5 * 27 = 13.5 g.
6. Find the mass of oxygen:
m (O2) = n (O2) * M (O2) = 0.375 * 32 = 12 g.
Answer: 13.5 g Al, 12 g O2.
