Calculate the mass of calcium nitrate, which is formed as a result of the interaction of 25.2 g

Calculate the mass of calcium nitrate, which is formed as a result of the interaction of 25.2 g of nitrate acid with calcium oxide.

Given:

m (HNO3) = 25.2 g

Find:

m (Ca (NO3) 2) -?

Solution:

1) We compose the reaction equation corresponding to the condition of the problem:

2HNO3 + CaO = Ca (NO3) 2 + H2O;

2) Find the amount of nitric acid in 25.2 grams of acid:

n (HNO3) = m: M = 25.2 g: 63 g / mol = 0.4 mol;

3) We compose logical equality:

if 2 mol of HNO3 gives 1 mol of Ca (NO3) 2,

then 0.4 mol of HNO3 will give x mol of Ca (NO3) 2,

then x = 0.2 mol.

4) Find the mass of calcium nitrate obtained during the reaction:

m (Ca (NO3) 2) = n * M = 0.2 mol * 164 g / mol = 32.8 g;

Answer: m (Ca (NO3) 2) = 32.8 g.
