| Calculate the mass of FeS, which can be obtained by the interaction of 7 grams of iron containing 5% impurities with sulfur.
1. The reaction equation for the production of iron sulfide (2):
Fe + S = FeS;
2. find the mass of pure iron:
m (Fe) = (1 – w (impurities)) * m (sample) = 0.95 * 7 = 6.65 g;
3.Calculate the chemical amounts of iron and its sulfide:
n (Fe) = m (Fe): M (Fe) = 6.65: 56 = 0.11875 mol;
n (FeS) = n (Fe) = 0.11875 mol;
4.calculate the mass of sulfide:
m (FeS) = n (FeS) * M (FeS);
M (FeS) = 56 + 32 = 88 g / mol;
m (FeS) = 0.11875 * 88 = 10.45 g.
Answer: 10.45 g.
