| Calculate the mass of H2, which is formed by interaction with hydrochloric acid, 101.25 kg of aluminum containing 20% impurities.
1. Let’s find the mass of pure aluminum:
101.25 kg Al – 100%
x kg Al – 80%
Hence, x = 101.25 * 80/100 = 81 kg
2. Let’s compose the reaction equation:
2 Al + 6 HCl = 2 AlCl3 + 3 H2
According to the equation:
2 mol of aluminum enters into the reaction;
3 mol of hydrogen is formed.
Let’s find the mass of aluminum by the formula:
m (Al) = n * M = 2 mol * 27 g / mol = 54 g
Let’s find the mass of hydrogen by the formula:
m (H2) = n * M = 3 mol * (1 * 2) = 6 g
3. Let’s calculate the mass of hydrogen, making up the proportion:
81 kg Al – x kg H2
54 g Al – 6 g H2
Hence, x = 81 * 6/54 = 9 kg.
