The oxidation reaction of sulfur with oxygen is described by the following chemical reaction equation:
S + O2 = SO2;
1 mole of gas reacts with 1 mole of sulfur. 1 mol of its oxide is synthesized.
Let’s calculate the available chemical amount of sulfur.
M S = 32 grams / mol;
N S = 40,000,000/32 = 1,250,000 mol;
Taking into account the reaction yield of 85%, 1,250,000 x 0.85 = 1,062,500 mol of sulfur oxide will be synthesized.
Let’s calculate its weight.
M SO2 = 32 + 16 x 2 = 64 grams / mol;
m SO2 = 1,062,500 x 64 = 68 tons;
